If you’ve been looking for the ultimate summer retro drink, this Gin Sunrise will do the trick! This classic pop icon ‘70s cocktail, typically made with tequila, has had a twist for summer and is made with beautiful botanical gin for that refreshing and easy-to-drink flavour. This is a super pretty drink to share with a loved one, serve at a wedding party or make up easily and quickly for a summer gathering. And what’s better? It’s served in Duralex®’s Manhattan Hiball Tumblers which have a classic, timeless design and are both durable and resistant. Simply add a maraschino cherry and a slice of orange, and you’re set! Who needs an island holiday anyway?

Gin Sunrise

Why I love this Gin Sunrise:

With a gorgeous two-tone colour, the red grenadine seeping up into the fresh orange juice makes this Gin Sunrise a real showstopper. Here’s why I love it:

  1. It’s fun and oh, so retro! Bringing back those 70s vibes.
  2. It’s refreshing, bright and colourful – perfect for sharing during the summer months.
  3. Can be made  in less than 15 minutes. Win-win!

How do I create that signature Gin Sunrise look?

While mixing your beverage is highly recommended before drinking – so you don’t simply slurp orange juice or straight spirit – here’s how you can create a drink that truly looks like the sunrise. Just remember to add a muddler for your guests!

  1. Firstly, pour your grenadine into the glass.
  2. Secondly, add your gin (I used pink gin in this recipe).
  3. Thirdly, add the ice. This is going to act as a ‘barrier’ between your spirits and mixer.
  4. Then, slowly pour your freshly squeezed (or shop-bought) orange juice over the ice.
  5. Use a peeler to peel some orange rind for decoration, or add a slice of orange instead.

Top with a maraschino cherry skewered onto a cocktail stick, and enjoy!

What ingredients do I need for this Gin Sunrise?

  1. Grenadine. This adds sweetness and colour to this gorgeous beverage. My personal preference is Monin’s Grenadine Syrup.
  2. Pink gin. While you can use regular gin in this recipe, I prefer pink gin for that stunning sunrise appearance.
  3. Lemons. A small amount of fresh lemon juice balances out the sweetness in this drink.
  4. Oranges. Personally, I prefer to freshly squeeze my orange juice for this recipe but you can totally use store-bought if you prefer. Valencia oranges are sweet, seedless, fairly large, and available from most supermarkets all year round. Perfect for making homemade OJ!
  5. Maraschino cherries. A beautiful touch to tie in with the rising pink of the grenadine syrup, this garnish balances out the look of the drink and gives it an extra burst of sweetness.
